Focusing on brutality experienced by Black men at the hands of police and others, this work grapples with the complex internal and external healing processes associated with physical trauma. Pearls, vintage jewels, semi-precious stones and minerals create a backdrop for a grouping of creepy Barbie arms. These appendages were slip cast, fired, and glazed an unnatural milky white, with their reddened palms signifying the act of being “caught red-handed.”

The He Loves Me Not collection subverts the form of an iron slave mask meant to mute its victim by reimagining a tool of enslavement as an object of protection. Each mask in this series explores trauma and healing processes for Black men while highlighting a particular gemstone for its restorative properties.
