The main pieces on this tapestry were sewn during the pandemic of 2020. Despite the struggles of quarantine and losing friends and family, the DuVernays were able to find relief in sewing and creating powerful, boldly colored patches. Due to the cancellation of Mardi Gras 2021, the DuVernays combined their quarantine artworks with pieces from Charles’ first suit to represent the dichotomy between 2019 and 2021. 

A background of muted purple is heavily contrasted by flaming insignias flickering outwards from the tapestry’s main body, signifying the disparate artworks and time periods that informed this piece.
